As we begin 2019, one word sums up our focus: Better. Becoming better Christ followers who give him full control of every aspect of our lives is our aim. As a result, we‘ll thrive at fulfilling His purpose in our lives, families, and communities. Indeed, there is no better way to launch this new year than through the transformational power of prayer and God’s Word.
Our Heavenly Father, through His son Jesus Christ, has given us a better arrangement for a relationship with Him. Ultimately, prayer helps us keep our intimacy with Him and focus on accomplishing our life mission of loving God and others as we lead them into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. And this underscores the reason why we pray for family, friends, colleagues, classmates, neighbors, and the strangers along our way who do not intimately know Christ.
So we continue our prayer and fasting experience. Fasting is intentionally humbling ourselves by abstaining from something like a favorite meal, preferred beverage, or entertainment we enjoy for a biblical purpose. This is called a partial fast as described in Daniel 10:3. Then there is the juice fast. While you abstain from foods and choose not to have chewable food. In either case, all fasting should be done only with great care and you should consult your physician if you’re pregnant or have an illness.
We fast so that we can better focus on the ways the Holy Spirit stirs our souls. Jesus fasted to acknowledge his dependence on the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God in His life. Our goal through these 21 days is to grow in a deeper relationship with God.
Each day you‘ll receive a brief thought on prayer, a daily verse from God‘s Word to meditate on, and the opportunity to activate your thoughts into prayerful action. We also want to pray with and for you so we’ll have space for you to share your prayer requests. Plan on joining us at special prayer events each week too. We want to equip you with a better approach to prayer, cheering you on every day of our journey.
God Bless You!
